I don't know if anyone has ever written erotic fiction about a real historical figure before but, to me, Josephine Baker was a natural. She was the Madonna of her age, larger than life, and she could carry on affairs with one guy during the day and another fellow at night. Talking to friends, I discovered what a controversial reputation she still has with people of colour, but I hope my story shows sides of her they didn't know about and gives my readers some genuine thrills.

When you write this kind of story, I think you have to be free and open to a degree about what turns you on, but at the same time, you want your prose to make your reader's toes curl. And Paris is always glamorous and that period in history is so fascinating that it naturally inspires all kinds of erotic scenarios. As I got deeper into the story, I realised I was trying to write my own little version of a black Casablanca - but one with steamy love scenes!
